Oh make it stay forever
This buoyant willingness
That is keeping my abstinence afloat
As though it were an inner tube

Under me while the river
Spins me round and round
Make it stay forever
This long-sought eagerness to serve

Blessed surprise. I didn’t think
It could happen, not for me
Who have spent a lifetime
Guarding my precious minutes.

Still, I won’t pretend I’m in charge
Not anymore. Perhaps your will for me
Is otherwise. I offer then a humbler prayer:

If your will lies that way
Let my willingness stay
Just for today.
